What does 来财 mean?
Monday morning, first coffee of the week, and someone drops 来财来财 into the group chat. Three people reply with the same two characters. It is a chant rather than a claim: the doubled form works like a small spell you mutter before opening your banking app, and nobody genuinely expects a transfer to land. What people are after is the mood lift before a shift, a job interview, a sale. The template travels easily, so 来offer appears every recruitment season and 来分 turns up in comment sections before exams. It shares the register of the 打工人, hopeful and worn out in the same breath.
Where does 来财 come from?
揽佬, a rapper from Guangdong, released 《八方来财》 in August 2024, a Memphis-style track built on the phrase as its hook. The song sat quietly for a few months. Then, in early 2025, DJ remixes and fan-made animations carried it across short-video platforms, where it reportedly racked up billions of plays. 国家语言资源监测与研究中心, the national body that tracks online language, listed it among the top internet buzzwords of 2025.
