Chinese Slang Explained

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Chinese Slang Explained does not ask visitors for personal information. Creating an account is optional and only needed to post comments.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, approximate location, device type). Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.

View counts and feedback

We count page views and “helpful” clicks to show which terms are popular. Counts are stored as daily totals per page; to avoid double-counting we use a hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day and is never stored with the counts. If you send feedback, we store your message and, only if you provide it, your email address, so editors can follow up.

Accounts and comments

You can browse and read every entry without an account. If you want to comment, you can register with an email address and password, or sign in with Google. For accounts we store your email address, your display name, and — for password accounts — a salted hash of your password (never the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we also store your Google account ID. While you are signed in we use a login cookie; it contains no personal data, just a random session token.

Your display name, the text of your comments, and any images you attach are shown publicly next to your comments. You can delete your own comments at any time. With each comment we store the same daily-rotating IP/browser hash described above, so moderators can limit spam and abuse; it cannot be linked to later comments once the day changes. Comments you delete are hidden from the site but may remain in our database backups.

To delete your account or your comments entirely, contact us via the contact page.

Server logs

Like most websites, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, requested page) for security and troubleshooting. They are not used to identify individuals.
