What does Passion mean?
Open a Chinese graduation video or a gym edit from 2024–2025 and there is a fair chance the soundtrack is one man bellowing a single word: Passion! That man is the stand-up comedian Fu Hang (付航), who won 2024's 喜剧之王·单口季 (The King of Stand-up Comedy) by turning the shout into a whole philosophy: stop lying flat and throw yourself at life at full volume. The internet adopted it as the year's anti-languor slogan, and typing 人生需要passion (“life needs passion”) is now how you drag yourself, or a friend, out of bed. The pun helps. With his accent the word lands as 怕甚, “fear what?”, so passion answers its own question.
Where does Passion come from?
Fu Hang spent years being looked down on and built his material around it; the punchline is always that he chooses passion anyway. Those bits went viral on Douyin and Bilibili during his 2024 competition run. Then the finale, where he bellows “Passion!”, detached from the show entirely and became a standalone audio clip, reused across millions of motivational edits, graduation videos and gym montages through 2024–2025.
