What does skill issue mean?

Skill issue is the shortest possible answer to an excuse. Someone dies, blames the lag, the controller, the team; the chat replies with two words and moves on. It began as pure trash talk in competitive games and leaked into everyday speech, where any failure, from a collapsed cake to a parking ticket, can be written off as a matter of ability. The phrase has no compassion in it, which is precisely the point.

Where does skill issue come from?

The phrase is native to online games, where patch notes, forums and in-game chat have used it since the 2010s to settle complaints about unfair losses. It hardened into a meme in the early 2020s as clips of spectacular failures filled YouTube and TikTok, and the comments learned to diagnose everything with the same three syllables.

How to use skill issue
